I'm assuming my only fix for this will be to find a set of 16" wheels? | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | You might be able to change offset to get it to work. I'm running 15 inch wheels on my disk brake equiped AD truck.
There is more than one kit, are you using the 5-lug or the 6-lug. I suspect it makes a difference.

Drum brake wheels are different then disk brake wheels. I have seen some guys grind a little off the caliper so the wheel will clear, How much space are you lacking?

I have the 6 lug CPP disc brake setup on my '50 truck, works fine with the 15" K5/Blazer wheels that the truck has on it now.

Anyone else run into this with the CPP kit?

If you do use spacers, make sure you get good ones, preferably hub-centric if you can find them so all the weight isn't resting on your lug studs. 16's, 15's, and maybe even some 14's should fit, again the brakes hitting is a backspacing issue. Before you buy different rims, take a few measurements and find out what the backspacing is on the rims you are looking at so you don't run into the same problem. | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 | I need about 3/4 of an inch to make these 15" wheels fit. Anyone else run into this with the CPP kit? i have never heard of anyone using 3/4" spacres. dont think that would be safe at all. although my wheels are centerline 15", they work fine with my power front discs. leonard | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 66 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 66 | Good quality spacers are safe, unless you have a performance vehicle with a ton of torque, or something that handles well that you push hard. I believe 1 inch is the smallest you can get. The good ones slip over your lug studs has recessed pockets like your rims for lug nuts, and are machined to fit on the hub so all the weight isn't on the studs. Then they have full length studs mounted through to bolt the rims to. They can be very useful and are reasonably affordable, but they have their place and are not for use on certain vehicles. | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 | wow, sure enough, they go to 1". i never knew that. here are some spacers from speedway. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Universal-Billet-Aluminum-Wheel-Spacers,3442.html
leonard | | | | ZooKeeper Unregistered | ZooKeeper Unregistered | Don't use spacers if you need more then a 1/4", use a hub-centric wheel adaptor it's much safer....Joe | | | | Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 20 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 20 | I had this problem trying to put 15" wheels on a '78 K25. I wouldn't try to make up all your extra space with a spacer, it puts a lot of strain on your lugs. What I did was put a smaller spacer on (3/8"), then ground down the tops of the calipers some until they would clear.

Everything clears except the area where the four slots are formed and rivetted to the rim.
I am in the same boat and I will need to buy rims next year, which is what I was hoping to avoid with the six-lug brake kit - oh well... | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 105 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 105 | grrr. Far as I can tell, these are original wheels... They are the 3 clip hubcap style.
The killer is that I have 8 of these wheels, all 15". It would really frost my donuts to have to buy 4 new wheels with the proper hub offset.
Secondly, I haven't been able to find any new 6 lug original looking wheels that will work... anyone know of any? | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 275 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 275 | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Interesting. Looks like most of those guys have the same opinion aobut spacers and adapters that I do. Especially what the one fella said "get the right wheels, you'll be happier". Good advise.
