I am getting ready to do my wood bed on a 55 first series , I have to replace the side strips along with the center strips. How is the best way to install them and get them in the original position? I drilled out the spot welds and I am not a good spot weld so I guess I will use 5/16 bolts instead of spot welds. thanks for your advise,

The side strips as you know are spot welded on. I am not sure how you could bolt them on and not have a bolt head or nut showing on the out side. Most of them would be under the fenders, but the end one would show. Maybe some one makes a special bolt set for this. Check with the vender's in the Links section.

We have compolete instructions on the website http://www.mar-k.com/installation_hints.html for installing your angles, whether welding or bolting them. Go to the link and scroll down to the instruction for Angle Strip removing and installing for 54-72 GM trucks. For exposed bolts, use Acorn nuts to protect the threads and for cleaner appearance.
