It looks a lot like Mike B's recent purchase, but not in near the condition. It has some rust through in the steps and the fender wells, but the rest of the cab and floorboards look solid. It is an original 427 ci truck and had a 427 crate motor installed 4 years ago. The 5-speed tranny was replaced 2 years ago. It has a 2-speed rearend and the owner said it will do 70 mph comfortably.
The truck was used by the owner to haul water for his sistern, but now he has city water and no use for the truck. There is a 1,000 gal water tank chained down to the 12' all-steel bed, which has a dual cylinder hoist under it. I didn't drive it today because the rain started, but the engine sounds fine.
I don't need another truck right now, but I can get this one for $800 with the title. I'm thinking that the engine, tranny and bed are worth that. Any thoughts?
Thanks, George | | | | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 940 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 940 | Definitely a lot of stuff there for $800. You should be able to sell the tank if you don't need it yourself. With a little fix-up work you could have a nice little Flat Bed Dump there, with some good power to boot.

It was a real rust bucket but looked pretty good after we repaired it and painted it. It worked just fine pulling my 40' flat trailer. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 | Hey George, Is this truck an Air Brake truck? Does it have Daton or Motor wheels? Have any pictures to share? Let me know if you decide to pass. Mike B | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 443 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 443 | Hey Mike. It has hydraulic brakes and I don't remember what wheels are on it. I wish it was in the condition yours is... but then I couldn't get it for $800! The owner is out of town for the weekend, so I need to decide if I'm going to buy it by Monday. Frankie told me that it was a great deal and he would buy it if he had the money. I'll let you all know the skinny early next week.

That one that Mike bought I had that one on my ebay watch list but it was going to cost $1500.00 US money to get it flat bedded home. I found another one closer that was a fire truck (as was mine) a 1968 with approx. 12,000 miles for a asking price of $800.00 cab and chassis. I may pick it up in the spring. It cost me about $800 to fly two of us out and drive it home (air plane tickets, food, gas, one night lodging and the cost to UPS my 80# tool box out the week before). The truck came with two good spare tires mounted, new gas filter, new 2-speed shift motor and switch, new plugs, wires, points. It rounded 50K miles on the way home. What motor does the GMC fire truck have, the 637 V8? Sounds like a good deal for $800. Mike B | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 443 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 443 | I decided to buy this truck. I haven't figured out what to do with it yet, but maybe something will come up. I should have it home later this week; I'll post some pics then.

My sister sold her property and had to get rid of the thing, so I drove it back to the ranch yesterday. It's a 30' Class A MRV, which is on a GMC chassis. Don't know much about it, but I know it has disc brakes front and rear and is powered by a smooth running 454. It has 40,000 miles and runs and drives like a champ. Maybe Frankie will snatch the body off for me and I'll keep the drivetrain for a future project.

Speaking of your future projects, do you want the axles and transfer case I got from Johnny G?? If so, I'll bring 'em to the Winter Classic.

I'll take runner up for liquidation of the day. Sold two trucks last Wednesday. What kind of condition is the motor home in? Is it worth keeping as is? The fact that it runs and is driveable says a lot. We could use another camper at camp Stovebolt in Winchester.

As for the 4x4 set-up from John G, if you have no need for them, I'd be happy to house them at the ranch! Billy-Jack is already my brother... I don't need a motorhome to prove it.
Billy- Sorry to hear you parted with a couple trucks; no wonder you waited a week to tell us. That's a traumatic event! The motorhome could be fixed up to be a sweet machine, but I bought a 5th wheel camper a couple months ago and have no need for this thing. I could use it as a hunting cabin, but I'll probably part it out.
John G- Took the splint off of my busted finger the other day and I'm almost ready to resume the front-end rebuild. I'll let you know about the seals as soon as I figure it out.
Take care, George

John G. details will come soon, there a lot of chikens to hatch and I ain't countin....
George, are you sure you wouldn't want to put a hitch on the MH and haul the carryall to the Tri-state show. Hey, and its a Stovebolt (sort of). (if not, you are welcome in the SB mobile command vehicle anytime)

It would be longer than a tractor trailer with the carryall rig behind it and I know I couldn't turn it around up here on the hill.
John, I'll never try to steal your rack in the Casa Del Marlow. I might pull my 5th wheel to the Tri-State a couple days early, then bring a show truck up later. The 5th wheel has 4 bunks, a queen air-bed and a queen in the master bedroom, so there will be plenty of room for extra Bolters.
As for fixing up the MH, it'll probably still be together at the Winter Classic, so you all can take a look and give me some recommendations.

I think it looks like it is in pretty good shape. What are your plans for it? Will it be the Napco Hauler or maybe the truck we take on the JYT to haul home all our Stovebolt booty or maybe have the chore of hauling all the wood to your burner? Eihter way it looks sharp, congrats. Billy

Mine is a T-80 at 29,500 GVW. How fast will it run with the 427? I assume it has a 2-speed rear... Does the parking brake work, I'm having a hard time adjusting mine, might need to have the band relined. Thanks for sharing the pictures! Mike B | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 443 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 443 | Billy- No plans for the truck yet, but I figure I'll use it to haul some wood. If I can build some side boards for it, I'll probably use it to haul stone too.
Mike B- The guy told me it was a 60 series, but it doesn't have any trim that shows it. I'll try to figure out what I've got tomorrow. Yes, it does have a 2-speed rear. The parking brake doesn't work; the owner said his mechanic told him it needed to be adjusted... must be a trend. As for speed, when the guy drove it here, his wife followed him in a car and said he averaged 60 (speedo isn't working).

Got a call today from a guy that was going to buy the truck as the owner was delivering it to me. He said his dad was the original owner of it and he was the one who put the crate motor in a few years ago. His dad passed away and he has fond memories of the truck and has pictures of him and his dad with it. I can't keep the truck when it means that much to him. He's supposed to come get it Saturday. I'm on the prowl for new/old steel.
