old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 349 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 349 | I purchased a fuel line for my 59 apache. In the classic chevy parts book it did not distinguish between 3/4 ton (my pickup) and a 1/2 ton. The shipping paper says it is for a 1/2 ton. When I match it up to the old line, which is hard to do since it is in pieces, it doesn't seem to match up very well. Has anyone installed a 1/2 ton fuel line in a 3/4 ton 59 before and have any advice? Anyone have a picture of what the 3/4 ton fuel line should look like? Thanks for any help. If '59 trucks are the same then the line from the tank to the frame would be a bit shorter before it makes it's bend to fit the frame rail. Is that what you're noticing when you try to match them up?

It is the long piece that goes along the frame, that doesn't look right. I wish I had a drawing of how the fuel line goes into the truck. I removed the old line over a year ago and the long piece is in 3 pieces due to rust, and can't remember how it came out. Should have taken pics with my digital at the time I removed it, or labelled it. Now I am paying for that mistake. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 90 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 90 | There should be some clips along your frame rail that the line snaps into, when it exits the frame rail it makes a run to the fuel pump. If it's close you can easily put a gentle bend in that line to make it fit. The tubing is very malleable until it gets work hardened, but that only happens when you keep working the same spot over. Unless you're going for a show restoration the mild bend in the line will not matter. I cut and flared mine to accept a fuel filter before the pump.

The frames are the same width and have the same crossmembers from the cab mount forward. The 3/4 ton and long 1/2 ton frames are identical. I don't have it handy to scan in, but I do have a copy of the Assemble Manual, there is a drawing that shows how the lines fit. I can get the pic up for you, if you'd like to see it.
