I'm converting my 48 to 12 volts. The alternator that I have has a pulley which is too skonny, I am hoping that I can use the pulley from my generator. The generator pulley came off easy. The nut holding the pulley on the alternator will not break loose. I am using a long 15/16" Craftsman wrench on the nut and an allen key with a 16" cheater bar to hold the shaft. Should I use heat? or impact?\

If you slow the alternator rotor down with a big pulley, it won't charge at idle speed. Alternators need to turn at least 2 to 3 times crankshaft speed to be effective.
