HI,

This is the first time writting to the forum!
Just wanting to pick your brains. I have a 1950 chevy 3100. The 216 block that is in it is split
from front to back. Not something I'm going to mess with. My uncle has a wrecked 80's Pontiac car and said if I can make it work, I could have the 305 and driveline that is in it. Question is
CAN I make it work? Any help guys?

Check the tech tips link at the top of the page. This isn't a 305 but should head you the right way: http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/engine_swap2_302.htm

Yup, it can be done. They are done all the time! You might be able to use the engine, trans and rear end. Bone up on your welding skills or know someone who is good. Get some catalogs of the manufacturers that make swap components. Then, go hang out and ask a bunch of questions at the Hipo forum here at The Stovebolt!!

Thanks Guys!!

I just needed some reassurance that it could be done before I devoted alot of time into it.
If the 305 in fuel injected what should I do try and keep it that way or could I get an older intake and stick a carb on it?

You could go either way. Depends on how much extra work you want to do. AND you will do extra work to make the FI work. Fuel return lines, sensors, computers, extra wiring, etc. With a carb, put fuel to it, spark to it and away you go!

Visit my 'burb link below and follow along as I put Tuned Port Fuel Injection in my old Chevy.

I would swap for a carb, it would make your life much easier. i would also take that chance to buy a carb/intake kit from edelbrock and if you have the scratch pick up a cam and headers too. i think that the carb route is gonna be easier. as for the tranny you might have to figure some stuff out to make it work with a carb, for downshifts and that junk. I would go for it. have fun and learn a lot, you will enjoy the ride when it is finished.

Welcome Aboard!

The Carb will easier for you in the long run, I think.

However, Fuel Injection will be a little more fuel efficient.

Watch out on that 80's Pontiac. You may have a Transaxle (Front Wheel Drive Tranny) to worry about. I don't think it has one (at least, not if it's got a 305 in it), but it won't hurt to check. If it does, you can go to a junk yard and pick up a tranny out of a wreck, or just bolt the 305 to the tranny in the truck now.
