I am having trouble removing the front fender on my 64 C10. There is a vertical weld behind the bezel that I think may not be factory. I'm hoping someone can take a look at the photo and give me tips on what I may be missing near the front of the fender. Is this weld a factory weld?

Does the white piece behind the grill and bezel come off with the fender? I have all bolts removed but it seems like there are spot weld or something keeping the top front from coming apart.

Theres a bolt way up in the top front corner of the fender. I cant really tell what you pointing at in the picture but, Im guessing that bolt is your problem. Yes, the white curved piece on the right side of your head light comes off with your fender.

The white curved piece is welded on the inside edge, to the black piece that is behind the grill. The weld runs all the way down this inner edge, from over the headlight down vertically. The weld doesn't show up in the picture but I tried to mark it and point to it.
I take it that when you install a replacement fender, you need to take the white curved piece off your old one and tranfer it to the new?

I can't see to access it. If you have a white/some color truck sort of like mine the white piece on the fender stays there. If you buy new fenders you will get both parts on the new one as one fender.

You usually do not need to take that off if I am understanding it correctly.

If you could get a better picture that would be great. I have a 66 that I stripped down to do metal repair. When I removed my fenders the white piece you are referring to came off as part of the fender, but there are several bolts all along the inside of the fender and some of them are fairly tough to find and remove, especially if your truck has a lot of gunk or rubber-coating on the inside like mine did. The first thing I would do is try to clean up the fender and look for bolts you might have missed.

Cut that weld, its not factory. Then your fender should come off. The white part should stay with your fender unless the spot welds are rusted out and it falls off. Alot of the time the seam spreads apart because they will rust between the pieces. A new fender will come with that part connect to it. Just dont cut your grill support while cutting that weld or you will have more work to do.

I figured out my issue. Someone welded patches over the top of the seam that separates the fender and the grill support, on both sides. There must have been rust through in those areas and this was their quick fix. I am going to cut the patch where the seam would normally be. Thank you all for your responses, this forum is great.
