| | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 40 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 40 | I have a 1968 chevy longbox that I would like to put on a 1991 chevy long box frame. I know that I would have to take 5 inches out of the 91 frame as the 68 has a 127 inch wheelbase, and the 91 is 132 inches.

Not much, if anything, to be gained by swapping. The '68s already have IFS, and upgrades are very easy to do.

A set of Q1 coil overs and a 4-bar setup would be low$ as well. While you are right, it will set you back about $1000 to $1500, it would be better than a stock '91 unless you did the same upgrades.
Disc brakes were available in '71 if I remember right. So you may have parts available.

| | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Yes, '71 was the first year for the disk brakes, and with some parts swapping, spindles from the '73-'87 can be installed to the original control arms. Out back, the stock '68 suspension will outperform the leaf spring rear handling wise, or as Scott pointed out, a 4 bar can be easily installed.
For the time, effort, and cost to swap the frame, you would be ahead to upgrade the stock frame, and get a better handling and braking truck, plus you'll have a truck that the frame and body align to each other correctly.
