I live in Kansas City and would like to find a reputable company locally if possible. I know this subject has been discussed but, I searched and didn't find good results. Thanks.

Some years back I had an outfit in Texas plate some parts for me.
What they told me seem to be important when plating is done.
There's was a triple plate process, copper,nickel,then chrome which they said was important if your looking for quality plating.
He told me if plating is done right and there are no microscopic pit holes in the plating it should never rust.
I know cheap plating will rust after just one year cause I have some chrome parts I bought that already show rust pits just like those re-chromed bumpers used to do back when we had chrome bumpers.
I don't know who, but thats the type of plating I'd be looking for.

You may have used Speed and Sport Chrome Plating out of Houston, TX. Their number is 713-921-0235. I have not had any automotive parts plated by these guys, but they did work for me on an antique stove that I restored. They did exceptional work for me, and I recommend them highly.

Thanks, for the info guys. I found what seems to be a reputable company here in KC. I'm going to ask him specifically about triple nickel plating.

You might find that Triple Nickel plating is not as good as triple plating that is comprised of Copper, followed by Nickel, followed by Chrome (as described above by glasman).

What's the consensus; buy new Carter's or Classic Parts or spend the money to re-chrome? I really like the idea of keeping original metal. (I know '52 should be painted, but I like my Chrome)

It might just be a matter of cost vs gambling on the quality of the reproduction parts' chrome.

Ask JC if they know what type of chroming process was used.
