I know there will be the 12 volt issues with starter and hookup, what about the overall length of the 250 vs the 235? You'll need a V8 bellhousing from a '55-'72, or inline 6 bellhousing '63-'72 truck. I beleive the 250 is a few inches longer.

I have the whole set up for both, just haven't dived into it yet. Thanks | | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 11 | Great post... I need some advice. My 1960 lwb apache is just a frame as we speak. I have the 235/ 3 speed which came out (original) and I have a 250 out of an 84 gmc truck with a 700 R4 automatic. I want the automatic tranny, so do I do a whole engine tranny swap, or put the 700r4 on the 235. Can you advise the pros and cons of each. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,771 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,771 | The bellhousing do not swap. I beleive the 250 is a few inches longer. I just measured a 1954 full-pressure 235 and a 250 I've got in storage. The 235 is 39 inches from the front of the fan to the back of the bellhousing where the transmission bolts on. The same dimension on the 250 is 40 inches. Jerry

you will need an adapter to mate the 700R4 to a 235. However the complete 250/700R4 package would be easy and get you a few more ponies.

Do i push the motor forward to line up with the existing drive shaft or set the motor in place and adapt the drive shaft length. Also is the spline different in the 700r4. | | |
