Has anyone used the do-it-yourself windshield repair kits that you can get at the FLAPS? I had a rock jump up into the windshield the other day. The chip isn't in my line of sight, so I'm just trying to make sure that it doesn't turn into a crack, and make it a little less visible.

Bryan...I've not used the DIY version, but I do use a repair kit in my work.
If you can, gently heat the windshield from the inside while applying the pressure from the injector. This will help the resin flow a bit better.
Also try and do it in shade as the resin cures with UV light. this will give you more working time.
I also apply pressure to flex the damage from the inside but it's a risk as too much can make the chip/crack worse!
Let us know how it turns out.

If you have comprehensive coverage on your truck all insurance companies I've dealt with will wave the deductible and pay to fix the chip professionally. I haven't used a do-it-yourself kit so I can't help you there.

I contacted my state farm agent, and they said that they can give a discount on having it done, but it isn't covered by my plan...

It would be $50 to have it done by safelite, and the kits at the store are about $10....so I'm not sure what I'm going to do....

the chip is tiny... about the size of a pencil eraser.

That means you don't have comprehensive coverage. A small chip can turn into a large crack and a repair (replacing the glass) costing far more than $50.

If you're gonna try the kit, read the instructions. Tiny's setup may use pressure, but the kits use vacuum.... You pull up on the plunger and hold it until the air in the chip bubbles through the fluid, then let it go so it snaps down, pushing the fluid into the chip. Do this four or five times to get all the air out. Less air=better repair.

Good luck.

You should call around to the local glass guys. Peoria has a place that will fix these for $10 w/o insurance. You just drive in plop down your cash & drive away when they are done.

There has to be a discount place around you.
