For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 45 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 45 | I'd like any hints or ideas about making some wooden side rails to extend the working height of my pickup sides. Pics would be great, measurements and suggestions welcome! Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | I am doing the same to mine one of the best places I have found for examples is the trucks for sale on Ebay (all kinds of makes). Easy to copy pictures to a folder when you see something you like and it changes every day. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 176 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 176 | Here are the "original" hay racks that the the first owner made for my truck in the 1940's. They are constructed of white oak stakes cut to the size of the stake pockets with pine 1x4's for rails. The short stiles next to the stakes are designed to retain the end sections of the rack and allow them to slide up and down. There is one steel rod at both the front and back, which, when tightened, stiffens the whole works and prevents the end sections from failing out of there grooves. I believe the inner partition is to keep animals from other things being transported. (Forgive the trucks lack of bumpers and running boards - they are off for repair.)
