Worked this weekend on fitting the Fentons and the Offy two barrel intake. Added some pics to my engine rebuild album.

Check out my pictures on the Offy 2x1 intake manifold at

http://community.webshots.com/user/OldFartEd

It may give you some "food for thought" before you get everything put together.
If you decide to go that route, let me know, I have some extra aluminum slugs.

Here and over at Inliners international "fitting the Offy and Fentons" is an all time classic topic.

When we where confronted the first time with this problem on a friends 235 we took a lathe and made 3 spacers that moved the offy out a bit (and also replaced the 3 rings).

Is this the typical german complicated mechanic brain grin ?

Did really nobody came to this cnclusion?

Ed;
I did look at your pics after doing a search on SBP for fentons and offy. My manifold looks like someone (factory) has already done the type of welding you show in your pics. I'll take some pics of the underside this weekend and post them to see if you concur. Don't want a leaker!

I think all the Offy 2x1, 3x1 intakes that came/come, from Tom Langdon's Stovebolt Co. already has the plugs welded in them. He is the only supplier that does this. He really should state that in his advertiseing. It may help others to buy from him. ???
Anyway it sounds like you will have a non-leaker when you get finished with your project.
I just wanted to give you a heads-up on what could happen. Better before than after.
Good Luck !

Hi Frank, I thought I answered your question before. If you were fortunate enough to have a set of headers with consistent flange ears, your method would work just fine. However, my reproduction fentons had flange ears that didn't match the intake ears, and each to a different degree. For example, the front flange of the front header was off by about 5/16" on one side and less on the other, while the inside flange of the same header was a match on one side and off by 3/16" on the other. The rear header was just as inconsistent. I mated them with my stock intake and did all the grinding on the headers and none on the intake. At least it was just extra material. It also helps enormously to do it on a bench with a mock up head if the engine is not out of the truck and on a stand.

I agree Bigmac. Having the head on the workbench is the way to go! Did all the fitting and blue pencil marking on the Fentons, took them to the milling machine, did the cuts, back to the head, trial fit, etc. Would have hated to be bending over the fenders, working in the confined space and trying to see the fit of the markings.

Can someone post some pictures of the 2x1 offenhauser and fenton headers that shows the first hold down and bolt.I started fitting them up yesterday evening.I had to do some grinding on both headers and i'm unhappy with the position of the first hold down. You would think they would fit up right out of the box. This has been fun mocking it up on the bench. There is no way in $#*^%$#%$$&^* you would want to do it in the engine compartment. All pictures will be highly apreciated.

Thanks again.

Uploaded a couple of final pictures showing the grinding I had to do on the Offy to clear the Fentons. Bowtietim, I know what you are saying about the first holddown and bolt. The landings are a good 1/2 to 3/4 inch apart. If one was to machine down the Fenton landing, there wouldn't be much meat left to rest the holddown on. Think that I'm going to have my friend with the milling machine make me a steel spacer cut to exactly fit the difference between the Offy flange and the Fenton flange. That way, instead of building up the Offy flange, the holddown will be even and exert (hopefully) equal pressure on both manifolds.

I have finished fitting the fenton headers and the offenhauser intake to the head. I also made some slugs to weld into the bottom of the intake.I purchased some 7/8" diameter aluminum from my local air parts supplier.I don't weld aluminum,so i will take it to my welder man first of the week.I learned that a man needs four hands when fitting the intake and headers,so i screwed some pieces of plywood on the edge of my work bench,to catch the parts if they should fall.I took some pics and am posting the links for them.Hope you enjoy them.

Looking good Bowtie! How did you manage the front flange fitup?

I measured out how much to cut off, then used my thin cut off wheel in my die grinder. I then used my hand grinder and flat file to true it up.I believe it is going to work out great. Thanks
