If you decide to go that route, let me know, I have some extra aluminum slugs. Ed

When we where confronted the first time with this problem on a friends 235 we took a lathe and made 3 spacers that moved the offy out a bit (and also replaced the 3 rings). Is this the typical german complicated mechanic brain ? Did really nobody came to this cnclusion? Frankl

My manifold looks like someone (factory) has already done the type of welding you show in your pics. I'll take some pics of the underside this weekend and post them to see if you concur. Don't want a leaker!

He is the only supplier that does this. He really should state that in his advertiseing. It may help others to buy from him. ??? Anyway it sounds like you will have a non-leaker when you get finished with your project. I just wanted to give you a heads-up on what could happen. Better before than after. Good Luck ! Ed

If you were fortunate enough to have a set of headers with consistent flange ears, your method would work just fine. However, my reproduction fentons had flange ears that didn't match the intake ears, and each to a different degree. For example, the front flange of the front header was off by about 5/16" on one side and less on the other, while the inside flange of the same header was a match on one side and off by 3/16" on the other. The rear header was just as inconsistent. I mated them with my stock intake and did all the grinding on the headers and none on the intake. At least it was just extra material. It also helps enormously to do it on a bench with a mock up head if the engine is not out of the truck and on a stand.

Did all the fitting and blue pencil marking on the Fentons, took them to the milling machine, did the cuts, back to the head, trial fit, etc. Would have hated to be bending over the fenders, working in the confined space and trying to see the fit of the markings.

Thanks again. 1951 3100 Chevrolet1951 Chevrolet Suburban CarryallImage"A house is built with boards and beams. A home is built with love and dreams." "Look deep before you leap !!!" / "Everything is Everything" "If I say a mouse can pull a house, hitch him up"

Bowtietim, I know what you are saying about the first holddown and bolt. The landings are a good 1/2 to 3/4 inch apart. If one was to machine down the Fenton landing, there wouldn't be much meat left to rest the holddown on. Think that I'm going to have my friend with the milling machine make me a steel spacer cut to exactly fit the difference between the Offy flange and the Fenton flange. That way, instead of building up the Offy flange, the holddown will be even and exert (hopefully) equal pressure on both manifolds. http://community.webshots.com/user/geezer

I then used my hand grinder and flat file to true it up.I believe it is going to work out great. Thanks 1951 3100 Chevrolet1951 Chevrolet Suburban CarryallImage"A house is built with boards and beams.
