Help & advise please. I have a 54'/55' 1st series pick up and I picked up a 59' 235 out of a Bel Air (I stupidly sold the original motor awhile back). Does anyone have any advise or knowledge of whether it will mate up to my bell housing and or any other problems that I may encounter. The Bel Air had a automatic so I'll have to get a flywheel. Other than hydraulic lifters are there any other differences in the motors? Thanks, NM

Water pump location. The '54/'55 1rst still used the high mount water pump. You'll want to use a fan shroud or a pump relocatin plate to prevent cooling problems. As far as bolting up, there shouldn't be any problems, you'll just need the proper flywheel and starter, and i beleive 2 holes drilled in the front plate to allow for the front mount to work.

Thank you. I seem to recall a issue with the water pump when I had the motor changed out before.

If the motor came with automatic trans, you will need to put a pilot shaft bushing in the back of the crankshaft.

NM,

Will you be setting up the electrical system in your truck as original 6v or changing to 12v?

It'll be a 12 volt. I converted it over 30 years ago and it worked well. I ran the 6 volt starter on 12 volts and never had a problem. On this new motor I'll probably go with a DUI electronic ignition if it'll work. I have one in my jeep and am sold on the performance and simplicity. I intend to build the motor to 54' vette spec. I haven't researched it much yet though.
