| | | | Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 31 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 31 | So, I am looking for some guidance: I have owned a '49 Chevy Sub for 6 years, haven't done much but sand on it and try to figure out where to begin. I recently purchased a '52 GMC Sub that has all of the parts my '49 was in need of, in fact it's in very good condition except for the rust around those gosh darned sliding windows!
Now after looking at a GMC site, I learn(?) that the GMC frame may be different than the Chevy. OH please! tell me it isn't so! I was seriously considering the front saddle swap from the '61-'87 pickup. But now I don't know if the frames are the same.
Any guidance is appreciated!

If not, you can grind off the rivets to the frame and exchange the Chevrolet one for the GMC. That's what I am doing but in the reverse. I have been looking for a cross member for the GMC, so i can use the chevrolet frame.
Another difference is that the 53 uses bendix brakes and tube shocks whereas the 49 uses huck brakes and knee action shocks. | | |
