on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 70 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 70 | I will have to replace my rochester single barrel carb and was eyeballing replacement carb setups in Langdon Sotvebolt's catalog.
I am planning to add a dual barrel carb setup to my 235 on a stock manifold with an adapter plate - Engine already has dual exhaust manifold.
Any opinions on if this is a smart setup in general and which of the two carbs works better, is easier to setup, or has more readily available parts?
water heated choke vrs. electric choke seems to be the most noteworthy difference..,does one work better than the other?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, Mark | | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 623 "MONGO" | | "MONGO" Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 623 | Tom Langdon is a great resource he'll be able to tell you for sure if you give him a call. If I recall, when I did my 3 Carb setup, he was recommending the Holley Webers for Dual setups and the Carter Webers for 3 or more setups because the Holley's had a slightly higher CFM. In my case the electric choke was nice, just one wire on a switch under the edge of the dash to the middle carb. I ended up removing and capping off the rear choke to help clear the firewall on mine. Tom said you only need one hooked up. Mongo

But, I have his Carter Weber's and I'm very pleased with them. He'll recommend them over the Holly's most likely because they're brand new and the Holly's are rebuilt.
As for the electric chokes that is what I have and they seem to work as published. I thought about changing to manual chokes after I had some stalling problems. It was not a choke issue it was a fuel vapor lock. Long story short, keep your fuel lines a good distance from the engine. This new 10% ethanol fuel has a much lower vapor point.
Overall after figuring out the stall problem the setup is great! I use my pickup for a daily driver and with the electronic ignition and C/W's this makes it a real nice combination. You'll be very pleased with whatever you get from Tom he is a straight shooter and his prices are very good in my opinion.

I was surprised he didn't have more of his catalog items, but he brings what he knows are likely to sell. A very nice guy who offered advice to help me with my 261 project. It wasn't GM, but he had a beautiful early aluminum Hudson cylinder (flat)head for sale.
