On reproduction chrome "Chevrolet" emblems, at the front of the hood, the letters are painted red and the bowtie is painted blue. My original '49 emblem is chrome, but has no colored paint on the letters or bowtie. Did the paint somehow fade away, or was an unpainted emblem an option? I can tell my piece is original, because it has a bit of the original green paint along the bottom side.

I have an all original truck- the blue bowtie is faded- the rest is completely faded away.

My other trucks appear completely faded/no paint.

If it has overspray paint on it IMHO it just means that the truck has been repainted. Original parts shouldn't have any overspray on them. They would have been clean from the factory applied after the whole truck was painted. If you have body color on your chrome it is a clear indication of previous body work and may not be original to the truck.

It probably been repainted or touched up- on my 3100 I have a receipt for service where they touched up the hood and front fenders with forrester green in 1950 when it stopped being a farm truck and became the go to church and town truck for the original owner-

But the overspray is very very minimal.

Good points. The overspray is the same color as the original paint, but I didn't think about the overspray being a touch-up years later. Not a lick of red or blue on the emblem, though. It must have faded away, because it sounds like an all-chrome emblem was not an option.
