I need to remove the upper bearing on the steering column. Any advise on how to remove it?

You can drill a couple of holes in the edge, screw in a couple of sheet metal screws and grab the screws with some vicegrips and pull it out.

Worked for me.

Thanks George, thought I might have to get energetic with it.

I removed mine a few weeks ago. I removed the steering wheel, loosened the pinch clamp that holds the tube to the box, slid the tube and upper bearing up far enough to clear the top of the inner shaft and used the top of the inner shaft to tap the bearing up and out of the tube. Easy Peasy!

How'd you get the new gasket on the box?

Dennny G,
Am I missing a gasket? I removed the tube and used a broomstick to tap out the bearing. I don't remember seeing any gasket on the tube. I haven't driven mine in five years so my mind could be failing....LOL

Just removing the tube from the box requires no gaskets. The clamp at the bottom of the tube at the gear box, and the clamp under the dash are all that hold it on.

Its not really necessary to remove the tube completely from the truck, just pull it up far enough to clear the shaft and use the shaft as a punch to remove the bearing. And remember, there is a horn wire in the tube hooked to the bearing so unhook it at the frame and fish it through the tube opening.
