I notice that on the back of the fuel and temperature gauge are what look like factory resistors or voltage reducers. I don't remember seeing these on my '58 gauges. On the bigger trucks, that were 12V systems, the factory used the same 6v gauges by installing the resistors.
I was surprised when I got my '55 GMC home and discovered it had been (poorly) converted to 12V.

And yes the factory put resistors on the first 12 volt gauges. I have a 58-59 parts truck. I can look at the back of the gauges. But the ones with the resistors will work for 12 volts. | | |
