Hey guys,

I got my truck running finally and I realized that i have no idea where the timing amrks are i have looked everywhere i can think of and i have pulled apart the carb and set everything back to where it was and it won't idle i think it has to do with the timing but not sure i don't have any numbers on the block but i know it is a I-6 with the tin plate around the spark plugs any help would be apreciated.

Sounds like you have a 216 or an early 235. I believe the timing mark is a steel ball pressed into the flywheel but I don't have a truck of that vintage so I'm not positive. Anyone?

1 1/2" Hole just above the starter, steel ball in flywheel lined up with the pointer in the hole as Mike discribed. Will help to pull down the pan below the flywheel (4 slotted screws) and clean the timing marks off.

Thanks guys thats really helpful now I might be able to get it to idle, I was told about the block numbers being stamped into the block behind the dist. but I have cleaned it off and I can't seem to find the numbers anywhere, Is there another place I might try to look maybe for casting numbers to help identify what engine I have?

Oh yeah sorry it is a 1942 Chev. but i also don't know of what size the vin tag is missing and the old regi's are hard to read
