Was there ever a radiator overflow bottle for the '60-'62 trucks? Or did the radiator overflow hose just empty on the ground?

i know my 61 gmc did not have one .

I can't pin down an exact year, but I don't think "recovery" bottles were standard equipment until the 1970's. Before that the cap neck connected to an "overflow" hose, which did in fact spew on the ground when overheated, overfilled, or when the cap went bad.

Thanks guys, that's what I thought.
I THOUGHT I had read about a dedicated bottle, but couldn't remember, and don't see any evidence such as mounting holes.

Thinking I'll go find one somewhere. I don't have a problem overheating, but it'd be one more little detail I wouldn't need to worry about.

There are numerous aftermarket and factory recovery bottles available. The cheapest I've seen are plastic and mount in a crappy wire rack. They do work even if they're ugly. I ran one of the street rod stainless cylinder style bottles for years and never liked it. It was too tall and didn't work well. The bottle was always empty and there was always about 1/4" of air space in the radiator.

Back in April I switched to a Jegs aluminum tank as shown at the following link, and installed in the photo below. It fits nice and works perfect. When I open the radiator cap now the coolant a bit of coolant drips off the cap - it is completely full with no trapped air.

I'm planning Blitz Black on mine, too, with a '57 Chevy silver roof and "greenhouse" (it's a Suburban).

Definitely inspiring.

When you get ready to paint, let me know and I'll give you some tips about painting Blitz Black. It takes a bit of technique to have it come out the way you want.

I sprayed my '57 Chevy wagon drag car with it. The hardest thing I found--and I was told this by more than one person--is getting the horizontal surfaces to lay out without getting chalky or "tiger stripes."

I love the soft look of Blitz Black. I'm just not at a point in my life where I can have a glossy daily driver that I use as a truck. Or race car! (the Duster will be glossy though)
