Hi,

My 1947 Chevy 1-Ton Panel School Bus is in need of a good mechanic that can turn it into a fine-tuned reliable truck. Does anyone know a good shop in Minnesota that knows how to repair a stovebolt?

The todos: Once the monster runs it usually keeps running. But if it has an attitude you can just forget it for the day. My suspect is dirt somewhere between tank and carburator. The good-luck brakes could also use a complete overhaul.

C..Andyman,

I don't know of any good stovebolt specialists in Mpls...from what you describe, you should be able to do everything yourself. Carquest or Napa will have a carb and fuel pump, points, cap wires as well as brake parts. A guy I know brought his 2 ton 46 to a brake shop...$3,000 later, he got his truck back. he was not happy about spending the money, but once they had it, they fixed it...i am not a pro wrench, but managed to take care of my brakes and a tune up...it cost me a lot less...just a thought.

46 In Progress is right. I live next door to a very good "old-fashioned" repair shop in Lake Elmo (Lake Elmo Repair- 651-770-7699) that I would highly recommend for any work on old cars, trucks or tractors. The downside is that their shop rate is up close to $100/hr. I see lots of old cars over there getting worked on, since they are one of the only shops around that will work on old stuff, but I don't know how the owners can afford it at those rates.
