Hey fellas,
I just purchased a heater plate that bolts under my Fenton intake (235cui). Antifreese lines will run to my thermostat housing. I also purchased an adapter for the housing as well. anybody purchase this from Tom langdon Stovebolt?? Just trying to see if anybody had suggestions or problems. Also would like input on any positive performance results. THANKS. J.R. in VA.

I use his on an Offy intake and Fenton exhaust, but just use the hot air from the Fentons,no antifreeze. If I did use antifreeze I'd have to seal up the 2 casting ports on the bottom of the intake because the aluminum plugs they come with aren't water tight. They will leak otherwise. In cold air,I think it helps, but there are others that think differently.

Although Tom L. recommends water heat I'm totally with DrewP on using exhaust heat. After nearly 9K on my 235 setup I can verify that it is easier to plumb, provides the necessary heat, and eliminates the potential for leaks which can leave you stranded on the road. The firing order of the 235 insures a pressure differential and unlike coolant heat, the exhaust heat is instantaneous.

Installation of the Fentons to the Offy intake require a bit of grinding on the intake so they fit properly. The heat plate needed to be trimmed a little so the vertical linkage would not scrub. Also, the head of the manifold bolt where the linkage comes up from the bellcrank needed to be ground down a bit for smooth WOT linkage movement. On your Fenton intake I'd bolt them up and see if you could slide a piece of paper between them to insure a good fit for the intake to the head. You might get lucky!!

You might check out my webshots "Shoebox" album for fitment info for the Fenton exhaust heat.

I used the coolent method, per Langs advise with good results. No problems at all in about 5,000 miles. I let the truck warm a few minutes thats all, before I take off. Good luck.

From the standpoint of driving from dead cold the exhaust wins, and also keeps the oil cleaner (less unburned goes past the rings), you can shut off the choke sooner.
The downside is that while water can raise above thermo temperature (and can be set below that by reducing water volume), exhaust heat isn't really regulated except as to how it's designed.
I haven't figured out of way of adjusting the gas flow. Any valve will be carboned up quickly (I think), and using an inserted restriction is kind of messy and the size will change with the seasons.
