1947 - 1953 AD What are the two holes in the top of the door jamb for? Both my trucks have them and they look like factory holes.

That question has been asked many times before. Most of us came to the conclusion that the holes are for a jig to carry the cab from one point to another,,sort of "locking tabs".
If anyone has come up with a better and more believable explanation,,please share it.

Here is an assembly line photo from Rob English's GMC website. Does it look like the hoist is lifting at those holes?

I've have a cab that is stripped for cleaning/painting and will check out the locations of those holes later today.

That picture pretty much proves it. We got the truck all painted and during assembly kept wondering what was going to end up in those holes. If we had known we would have welded them closed.

Actually it does look quite close to where the holes would be Tim. I've never heard a better use for them. Now why would you want to weld those holes up, the next guy that owns the truck wouldn't have anything to ask questions about then.

There won't be a next guy that doesn't already know for this truck. Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

Mater,

Even if you do this right, you never know how the trucks might be used over the next 50-70 years. I can imagine how someone restoring your truck 70 years from now will be posting the following on whatever medium is then used for sharing old GM truck information and asking restoration question:

"2079: I am sure that my truck is original and it does not have those holes at the top of the door openings. If you truck has them, someone must have drilled them there for some oddball reason."

How many times have we heard how someone is certain that what they have is original, and it really is not.

Hmm, gives you something to think about TC. I still hold out hope that a grandchild wants my truck when I'm gone but that child is going to have to take a real interest in it while I'm still here. That child will know everything I know about the truck and can fix anything that might go wrong with it.

By the time our grand children grow up they will need to be running these things on cow manure cuz the petrol will have run out just like we’re gonna run out pretty soon.
And Timothy, ya got a good point thar.

I've removed your off-topic post. Please do not post anything not related to paint or body in this forum, or it will be moved or deleted.
Thanks,
The Moderator.

It was off topic and I apologize, just thought it was pertinent to previous comments in the thread, and important to debunk misconceptions being spewed about the oil supply available. Vern
