Just starting to install my sbc into my '49 chevy sb frame without the cab and was wondering where to place the v8 support. Its aftermarket tube type and the ends bolt up to the frame but without the cab on the frame I wasn't sure where to position them. I really didnot want to put my cab back on yet....but if i have to i will.

IF your 49 is like my 52 it may work for you. On the front of my chassis there are three rivets on each side. Measuring back from the center of the CENTER rivet measure 15 1/8" this is the center of the motor mounts.
Using the mounts with the one vertical bolt the mounts are 19" apart and that 19" is to be centered in your frame.
I will scan a pic of my instructions and come back and post a link here later. I think seeing it will help you. Put you a piece of masking tape down the side of the frame to make on.
YOu can see the mounts I used if you look in my photobucket pics of my panel listed below. No matter what type mounts you use the center should be the same.

Edit: I used the big distributor and it cleared my firewall BARELY. If you use a small HEI with the external coil you should be fine. This is on my panel but others may be close or may work just fine?

your frame looks exactly the same as mine. Did you use the single mounts for a reason? I have never seen those type. I thought there was only the cross brace like you have under your tranny. I too am gonna bolt mine on both the motor and tranny in case I ever want to remove it later, there is no grinding involved!

| | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 Master Gabster | | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 | The best position is the furthermost back to the firewall you can get and if you are using a large EFI distributor it will effect here those mounts should be. Any suggestions from guys here should be from experience using the EFI. I still suggest you should put the cab back on first. Just set it down where the front cab mounts meet up with the holes in the frame.
