I stripped my cab, hood, doors, and front fenders down to shiny metal, then sprayed them all with Eastwoods Rust converter. I stored them in my garage as I had to go out of town for a couple weeks and when I got back they all had a thin layer of surface rust. Other items that I didnot spray were still fine after this short time. I know the rust converter is not permanant protection but I did expect it would hold up for a few weeks. Anybody know what I need to do different this time? My plan is to spray again then epoxy prime ASAP.

I think the rust converter has to be covered with the rust encapsulator & top coated.I did the lower inside back panel of my cab that way.

sounds like you did something wrong, but I have no clue what it is. Maybe you didn't get enough on. I used a rust and etch product off the shelf at Home Depot and mine turned charcoal grey and stayed that way until I got around to sanding and paint.

I sprayed two coats as the instructions said. maybe they were too thin, however, other items that were left bare are still fine. I guess I will just leave it alone until I am ready to cover it with something else within a couple days.

I had a similar problem with the rust converter on my perfectly wire-wheeled axles, but my problem was adhesion. After speaking with a tech person for awhile he let it slip that this product should not be used on bare clean metal and that it is really formulated to work on top of adhered rust. Doesn't matter that the side of the bottle states that it can be used on bare metal!! So that is what I believe is your problem. I had to re-strip my axles and sprayed them with Eastwoods Epoxy Primer and that stuff worked great. Indestructible. I used Nason Epoxy Primer on all my sandblasted body panels and it works wonderfully as well. Epoxy is the best thing you can apply to clean metal in my opinion.
