hey I've been looking around and found a couple usefull sites, but i am still unsure how to tell what engine my truck came with from the factory. Hopefully you guys can help or point me in the right direction.

vin# C2545Z1628 on the plate on the driverside kick panel it had:

7500
RPO STD tranny??
525AA paint code? 525 is fawn
127

http://www.americanclassic.com/paint.htm?p1=vin

Thats the site i found, but i cant figure out the engine/ tranny info.

Reason im curious is my truck has a 6cyl in it now. According to the previous owner, and other obivous modifactions they did to put a straight6 in, im sure it had a v8 to start with.

some info: 65' , its a 3/4ton has what looks like a factory 4 on the floor with the high hump floor.

I gotta ask 'cause I keep hearing about the high hump tranny tunnel.

Was this only on C20's and bigger or was this something the factory also did on C10's?

Can you explain more about the "high hump" floor pan? Got any dimensions as far as what is standard tranny tunnel height vs. "high hump"?

Thanks,

John

I do know that my 66 c10 has a high hump with a transfer case shifter hole because the PO put a sm420 in and it fits right in. so I'm guessing 4x4s had it. I'll measure it when I get home.

high hump floors were for the 4spd. the sm420 has a high shift tower on the tranny... thus needing a high hump floor for it to fit.

how i know its not stock, motor mounts have been played with, they are bolted to the frame, not riveted like factory. Truck has a 1976-79 250I6 car engine in it. it has the intake manifold thats integeral to the head. The throttle linkage was mickey moused together. And the previous owner said it is supposed to have a v8 in it, but he did not know if it was a 283 or 327

hot rod john, i used to have a 66 c20 with a low hump so not all of them had the high hump. the c20 usually had the 4 speeds though so that's prob why most had them. in fact some of the bigger trucks have neither, they have "no hump" like the 62 and 65 c60's i used to have. no need for measurements, the low hump are round high are more square. trevota, sounds like you are right on since the manifold situation. the motor perches would not have been moved from the v8 to the 250 and the ones i have seen are bolted in not riveted. only the bracket that bolts to block is different. sorry i can't answer what engine was orig in there, i don't know much about the #'s. maybe someone will be able to.

I'm guessing maybe the GMC's all came with the high hump. Mine is a regular 2 wd short 1/2 ton that originally came with the 3 on the tree and it came with high hump. The difference is obvious once you know what to look for. The low hump has a somewhat bellhousing shape transition between the firewall and floor. The cover/pan in front of the seat appears to be about 1-2" tall. The high hump is about 6-7" tall running forward from the seat, and is very square in appearance.

I don't think the 327 was available 'til '66...at least in 10's.
I've had a '74 250, a '66 327, and back to a 6 in my '65 C10 and never had to touch the motor mounts, which are bolted to the frame.

If you can't fix it with a hammer and screwdriver, you need a bigger hammer.

2 wheel drive perches were bolted in while 4 x 4 were rivited in
230 and 250 eng perches were located in the frt 2 frame holes while 283 perches were located in the rear 2 holes. the 292 were offset with the pass side being forward of the other side

Some thing that has not been mentioned and that I found in one of 63s that still had the original seat, was a build sheet. I found it stuff between the spring and cushion. Probably a long shot, easy enough to take a look, if the seat is original.
