For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 48 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 48 | Somebody took the door tags off my truck when they painted it several years ago.
I need to know where the VIN is stamped in the actual body or frame metal.
Also, what GVW should the weight tag state for a 1957 3600 3/4 ton?
Is there a source for replacement plates?
I have the title, I just want to be able to travel interstate without getting hassled.

1957 Chevy 3600At these prices I want my gas 100 octane, leaded, and my windshield washed! | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | The VIn is stamped on the top if the left frame rail, next to the steering box. You may also find it stamped on the frame a bit further back, under the cab. Or at least mine is stamped there. The GVW tag is available reproduction for the 1/2 ton, I don't know for sure about 3/4 ton. The tag should say 6900#.

GVW will be 5200 [base equipment], 5600 [bigger rear tires], or 6200 with 2 stage rear springs
I know the GVW plates are available from most vendors, haven't seen the one for the vin

I have also seen a '56 3600 that was stamped on the frame. Maybe it depended on the shift as to whether it got done or not.

I will try again, looking under the cab, when I have more light tomorrow. 1957 Chevy 3600At these prices I want my gas 100 octane, leaded, and my windshield washed! | | | | | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 48 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 48 | Okay! Found it, on top of the left frame rail, just behind the front cross member. A bit further forward than others posted, but it is there, and does match my title. 1957 Chevy 3600At these prices I want my gas 100 octane, leaded, and my windshield washed! | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 55 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 55 | 1960 thru 66 trucks have the vin stamped on the top of frame rail driver side four inches in front of the engine mount bracket. 55 thru 59 have the vin driver side top of frame rail directly above the axle. Never seen one that didnt have one. OldWolf | | |
