| | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 108 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 108 | Today I was inspecting the cab of my friends 1948 1/2 ton GMC and noticed two items that differed from my 1951 Chevy 3100 cab. Can someone clarify if these differences are OEM differences between Chevy and GMC or someones modifications.
1. His cab had no rubber windlace around the doors. The slotted metal (crimp) track that mounts the rubber windlace was not there either?
2. The speedometer was mounted to the left side and the engine gauge cluster was on the right side.?

The most noticeable is stiffeners were added to the firewall. The speedo being moved was probably something the previous owner did for who knows why. Year for year, I have never found any differences in the cab shell for those years. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | Cab windlace changed in the 1949 model year to the track type. Prior to that it has a screw on retainer that attaches it and is a completely different looking style. Speedometer could be switched by any previous owner. See the Jim Carter catalog items CB183 and CB119 for the illustrated difference in windlace. | | |
