Front hub oil seal, #5756, $35.00 each!
And this is at Kragen's.

I find that hard to believe, particularly when new brake shoes were only $25.00.

I know prices are nuts, but $35.00 for a seal?

A more reasonably priced alternate source would be much appreciated.

2 of the seals shouldnt even be 35.00. Its for your 57,3/4 ton, right?
Shop around, theres something wrong there. The little chiselhead "parts tech" behind the counter isnt pushing the right button.
Did you tell them theres no air conditioning, and its a 2 door?

I don't know but that price may be in line. I pulled up AutoCrap(Zone's) website & they show that seal selling for almost $28.00...joe

Yep, my 57 3600, to fit the hubs I took from a 58 38 series.

I'm hoping the poster on the Tons 'O Fun thread is right, NAPA NOS20669, $17.00 ea.

I will know on Monday!
If correct, NAPA is HALF the price of the "Home of the low price guarantee".

$14.95 at Jim Carter's store, you can shop around and probably find them cheaper if you want to put the effort into it.

actually if Kragen advertises a low price guarantee you should get prices from all the other places and go back to them and make them eat the excess profit wink

I just went through this with my 54 - 3100. There is quite a difference in prices for seals. Then add shipping and the cost can get crazy. I pulled the size and PN of an online site and bought mine at a local bearing store. They were still 22 or 23 dollars each. But less than the vendor sites. These seals were used on many GM larger cars and all of the 1/2 ton trucks of the time, so I would think they would be less expensive. There were two brands available, but only one in stock. Of course it was the expensive one. There were CR seals, made in the USA. The other brand, I don't remember, but it was a know brand name. They were about 15 dollars each.

I looked long and hard for the 5 dollar seal, that they should be. They just are not out there.

If Timken or BCA/National #5756 is what you need, check Rockauot.com. Their prices are about $8 and $12, respectively.

BCA/NATIONAL Part # 5756

I think that the seals that cost so much are the original felt type grease seals. If you go to a later design lip seal they are much cheaper to buy.

Spent all day Sunday getting it back together.

NAPA seals, new shoes.

Finally got to drive my 57 3600 a little!

Now I just have to fix the exhaust and change out the intake and carb.
Then rewire it, replace the windshield, little things. ;-)

12.75 from Specialty Auto source ?? http://auto-parts.myride.com/auto-part/1109381-national-oil-seal-5756

That is for a National. I think would be calling Rock Auto though.

48 Chevy 3100 going back together with a 292 six and AX15 five speed.
