I am trying to get away from the split rims on my 1950 GMC 3/4 ton truck. Does anybody know of any wheels that will fit the 8 lug holes, that is no deeper than 3 1/2"? If they are too deep, they hit the tie-rod ends, because of the offset.

I could not find wheels for mine either I searched everywhere. I did get a set of chevy rims 16x6.5 that were riveted. off a late model 3/4 ton I believe a Silverado in a junk yard

I punched out the rivits (read - grind, drill, punch) and reversed the centers of the rims. Then pinned them with steel rods and welded both sides of the rods and the seams. They clear the tie rods and look great.

I think you can buy them like this (reverse rims) but I could not find them.

Not to hijack the thread, but, how can I tell if I have split rims? Are they standard fare on 40s, 50s and prior?

I have a 1950 GMC 3-4 ton, the rims are 15 in 8lug & they have a very pronounced ring just inside the rim lip. They must take an inner tube because the rims break apart to take the tire off the rim. I would love to change them but am running into problems locating replacements.

jimmy50, I've been attempting to do the same on my 53, just ordered a set of modern style tie rod ends for more clearance. Chevs of the 40's has these for 1/2 & 3/4 ton trucks.
Also there was a post on this issue some months back suggesting an 8 lug trailer rim which has back spacing of around 3 1/2". I'm hoping the new tie rod ends will allow the use of some later Chevy 8 lugs I've found, as of now they do not fit.

I had the same problem, finally solved by a local tire dealer. I bought Ultra type 62 wheels and went from a 17 inch 8 bolt wheels to a 16 inch 8 bolt. The dealer set me up with 16 x 7- 8 bolt wheels with a 6.50 inch lug spacing. I put P245/75R16 tires on and the truck sets very close to the same height as with the original split rims and tires. Do a Google search with "Ultra type 62 wheels' to see what they look like or send me an message and I will email you some pictures of how they look on my partly finished truck. The back space is about 3 1/2 inches and clears the tie rods easily when you crank the steering wheels to lock either way. The dealer I worked with actually gave me a couple of different wheels to test fit before I got one that worked with plenty of clearance. I was not trying to keep everything original, so hope this is not a problem.

I've got 16 in. Dodge wheels on the front of mine.They have about 3/8" clearance to the tie rod.
