I just put a new sending unit in and filled up the tank(behind the seat). The gauge is at 5/8ish and bounces around a bit. the new sending unit had 90omhs stamped on it.
second question, on my dash, there is what looks like two warning lights. one above the ignition switch the other above the wiper switch. they do not light up. what do they do?
truck is a 65 chev c20 with gauges in the cluster.....

The stock guage requires a 30 ohm sending unit. Now, as to the bouncing, that is pretty typical. Some are worse than others, but any truck that is still using the original fuel tank will slosh around pretty good. My '71 bounces pretty good. As to accuracy, it varies depending on the condition of the guage and the sending unit. My '71 is pretty accurate while my '63 C20 is off by about 1/4 tank.
As to the warning lights, I am not 100% sure on the '65, but I know that the '63's have a similar red lense setup and on those one is for an overspeed indicator and another is for a tandem lock. You have to remember that the guage clusters in the pickups and big trucks were the same just some stuff left off on the pickups, like the tandem lock indicators. I am assuming that is the case on your '65, anyway.

Im confused. today i drove the truck to work and the fuel gauge stayed at full. which is right as i filled it up last night. On the drive home, it was at about 3/4's and would go to full when i made left turns and to 1/2 when i made right turns. **edit** I live 10km from work, or a 10min drive.
I will call the parts store and ask about a 30ohm sender.
