I bought mounts from one of our popular board vendors and they were made in India. I tried for a couple hours to get them lined up, and my son came home and together, we got three, but the fourth is about 1/8" off. We had a hoist, and tried everthting we could think of from a sling to pry bars. I got a busted lip and chipped tooth out of the deal. We loosened the three hoping that would give us play. Any other ideas how to get in?

bob, I have seen so many with enlarged mount holes I think they almost came that way. I have loosened all the bolts on the stands also to get things lined up. I have also found offshore mounts with differents threads, one guy bought two mounts for his 283, one was 3/8 the other mount was threaded 7/16. brian

We're going to loosen some of the mount bolts this weekend and give that a try. I saw in the assembly manual that the front ones had one slot built into the bracket on some of the early 60's ones.Hmmm...wonder why they did that?

How goes the burb?

I always blast that hole in the bracket about twice its normal size. Than use the thick flat washer under the hole.

Oh, believe me, I was ready to blast it the other night....but the blasting was going to occur with 10" long cylindrical sticks with a fuse sticking out the end!! It is the one at the back that I'm having trouble with, and I can see most of the threads from the hole in the bottom......all but about 1\8" worth of them!

the burb is moving along slowly, I have the seats at an old school upholstery guy me & my bro found locally. I just about have old black truck stripped, it is down to (almost)bare cab & frame, just an e-brake cable, a brake hose or two left to remove before the last of it goes to China. brian

Wow! That doesn't sound slow to me. That's about two years worth for me!!

Will the old school guy be putting it back to a stock look?

yeah, he is even putting the white stripe in the backrest, the OE nylon material will be replaced w/a kind of tweed. Fella works by himself in a small shop behind his house. Seems most of the pro upholstery shops around here have folded. brian

Hey-on those mounts,could yyou be fighting the old 250/292 mount difference? When I bought my 66 C-60,it was without engine and radiator.I was told by the owner it had a 292 in it. I bought a 292 and had big problems getting the right mount to line up. Turns out,the previous owner didn't know a 250 from a 292,and the truck was actually built with a 250. I was finally able to fit it together by hogging out the center hole on the right side frame bracket and using the big flatwasher,like Wrenchbender does. I could have ground off the rivets and moved the frame bracket,re-drilled the frame,and bolted it down,but the engine was already in and mostly done,so I chose the path of least intensive labor.
Speed

It is the original 250 that came out of the truck. I am certain it is not a 292.
