The 292 in my 65 k20 is chevy orange is this correct?

Who knows? Your guess is as good as anyone's.

I have an original 66 K10 with the 292 and the engine is green. My 65 K10's original 292 was also green as was a friends 67 C20 292.

I have only seen 292's from '63 (mine) up to '66 and they have all been green. So, from my meager experience that engine should be green and not orange.

valve cover is peeling and its green underneath

No. It is a darker green.

The closest green to detroit diesel green was used on 300 cubic inch Buick V8's in the mid 60's.

Detroits got the attractive puke green.

Cummins has the glorious beige.

And CAT, the worst diesel to be produced, is a lovely bright Yellow!

Well, most people havent rebuilt there engine at the age of 17, and im not bragging about that, because i screwed it up, but it just shows that my age really doesnt matter with hands on knowledge. Wisdom, yes, but not knowledge.

BUT, my best buddies dad runs basically a truck chop shop and won't take anything with a CAT in it, I don't know why but i'm aware they like to spew oil all over the place. Just like Detroit, a good motor but has had a legacy of causing a thermo-nuclear explosion after throwing a rod.

No, We have a Freightshaker with a Cummins and the odometer stopped working 5 years ago at 1,260,000 miles. So i suppose your right in a sense License to Kill, I don't know much about CATS except for the stereotype for them, all i know is that if you don't get a million miles out of a Cummins, you've done something wrong. Not much really. I have a 1987 Ford LTL9000 with a 3406C, a 1998 Western Star with a 3406E and a 2005 Peterbilt with a C15. My family has been in the trucking business since my grandfather started in 1929. My brother is a HD mechanic for over 30 years and has worked on them all. I have 9 diesels on the place right now from a 3 cyl yanmar up to the 550HP 3406 in the Western star, and yes, even a 7.3 powerstroke. Cummins makes a good engine but, until the ISX came along, they just wouldn't pull like a cat. Doesn't make them bad, just different. Anyway, no, I didn't come here to defend cat it just happened to be a statement that caught my attention. Your right though, not many 17 year olds have rebuilt an engine. That and the fact that you are on this forum says alot about your character. Most are too busy with video games and trying to get their pants to hang around their knees. Not sure how guys end up on the diesel subject, but I've been a diesel mech for fifteen years and they all have their issues.My dad owned log trucks we had a 1972 white with a silver 92 init(turboed 2stroke if your not familiar) and an 1980 KW with a 3406B in it, the cat could have sucked the detroit up and spit out the stack! It is my opinion until electronic engines came along CAT was king
