I've searched the galleries for every picture I can find of 54's Wish I knew what an all original truck was supposed to look like in regards to color schemes. for instance painted grills, bumpers, running boards etc. any tips are appreciated. I realize that these restorations are a blank canvas to do with what we want. Just looking for some direction. thanks | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 684 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 684 | They were painted Gloss black when new. But I think a Satin Black would look good also. | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 | I sprayed my '49 with several coats of POR-15 Chassis Coat Black. I'm happy with the look and the durability. It gives a tough, semi-gloss black finish. | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 364 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 364 | I use a medium gloss black bed liner coating on my running boards...looks good and you don't have to worry about chips and scratches. | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Do-It-Youself bedliner works well, too. I did the steps on my '55, both on the bed and in the cab, with the Dupli-Color bedliner roll on kit. Looks good and is holding up very well.
