For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2008 Posts: 210 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2008 Posts: 210 | I assume that when someone says AD here it means Advanced Design (Late 47-mid 50's) What do you call the 41-46 (early 47's)? I have called it art deco which would be AD as well. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 687 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 687 | I think (from what I have read) that AD means Advanced Design, and people gave the name Art Deco to all the tooth grilled round body vehicles of that era.
I didn't do it, no one saw me do it, you can't prove anything! Art Deco for the 41-46 isn't a GM term, but is commonly used as 'deco' or the whole term, not the initials

This series came out in 1947 (some 1946-style trucks were sold in early 1947). The Advance-Design series of Chevrolet trucks ended in mid-1955. (1947 through 1955-1st) The official name of GMC trucks from 1947-1955 is New Design Trucks. Art Deco is a name often used for 1941-1946 (into 1947) Chevrolet trucks. It was not an official name used by GM/Chevrolet. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | Defintion of Art Deco as you can see applies to many things one being industrial design. Wikpedia definition below:
Art Deco was a popular international art design movement from 1925 until the 1940s, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design, and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts, and film. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, glamorous, functional, and modern

But for me.. The Chrysler building is the finest example of Art Deco in the world. It captures the era perfectly.
