Hey you guys, I can't get the Tech Tip paint code page to open (probably pilot error) Anyway, does anybody have the paint code for 1952 Mariner Blue? Thanks

47-55 Paint Codes Tech-Tip

For 1952, the Mariner Blue paint code information is as follows:

1952 RPO: 234G
PPG: 10419
DuPont: 93-63203

Please not that the codes changed in 1953 (but the name, Mariner Blue, remained the same). DuPont does/did not indicate a change in codes but PPG (Ditzler does/did).

Just in case you are still unable to open/read the Tech-Tip, here is some additional information found at the bottom of the Tip:

PPG has an excellent Color Library that most PPG jobbers do not know about (PPG Automotive Refinish, Customer Support Center, CSC). The color library can tell you if the original color is still available or, if it is not, they will usually have an "offset" number for a matching color. DUPONT does not provide this service .

The PPG Color Library can usually provide matches if you have Year, Model, Name of Color (sometimes they can tell you the colors that were available); but, it helps to have the PPG/Ditzler color code/number (in the table above). They do not have a way of showing you the colors.

440-572-6100 PPG Color Library - had all the paint codes that I needed for a 1954 restoration (new number Apr '07: 1-800-647-6050).
440-572-6111 PPG Tech Services Refinish (gave me the phone number for the Color Library).
440-572-6871 FAX number for the PPG Color Library (they will fax you modern color off-sets and formulas). Maybe they are now able to send this information via email?

If you call PPG, please let us know if the phone number(s) work and if you were able to obtain a modern off-set code.

I have the modern 53-55 PPG off-set code for Mariner Blue, but you should try to get the earlier code.

Huge difference between the Mariner Blues referenced above, early version is dark like navy blue later is robin egg color. I bought some paint from Brothers and found out the hard way.

Thanks guys! Spoke to the nice lady at PPG (yes the number works) and she said the 10419 number is still valid and available in almost all of their paint types.

My understanding is that the two Mariner Blue colors are not very different (and they are both quite dark). Hyperlinks to color chips are given in the Tech-Tip. Here is the 53-55 Mariner Blue from an off-set code I received from PPG about 7 years ago.

Sounds to me like Brothers sent you the wrong paint (maybe they got it mixed up with Transport Blue or Windsor Blue), which which are much closer to a Robin's egg blue color?

I am telling you that different people interpret Mariner Blue in different ways and Brother's is a robin egg.

I think the Mariner Blue code from 47-52 is the same code, Ditzler/PPG 10419 (as listed in the Tech-Tip).

The shade difference between 10419 and 10984 is unknown (and, in fact, as you point out, DuPont lists the same paint code for all years, 47-55). Both paints are a dark blue color (as seen in chip charts), a navy/mariner blue color. We'll see if this is confirmed by the paint (10419) that PJS obtains from PPG.
