I finished my '51 3800 and have been driving it around for a year or so with a '48 235 splash oiler. It didn't take me long to decide I'd rather have a later model 235. I now have a 235 out of a '59 pickup all cleaned up and ready to go in the truck.
I was planning to remomve the radiator and front grill before the swap but thought I'd ask before I do the deed. Do I really need to take the grill off or will pulling the radiator be enough? Any other tips from those of you who of done this before?

You will probably leave the trans in though. You will need to modify the water pump on the engine going in. It is too long to clear the radiator. I understand there is an adapter available for this. There has been some recent posts & info in the tech. section.

The adapter works great and lets you put the old style pump back to the right place. The short shaft pump leaves the fan to low and can lead to over heating in slow speed conditions. It's easy to install and lets you use a over the counter pump. | | |
