Chevolet had a radio option for your truck the radio was called the "UNIVERSAL" I have a 1941 ad for Chevrolet radios and shows this unit, it had ad justable brackets and could be mounted in the dash of the 41 passenger car or under the dash between the steering colum and left door on a truck,this is a self contaned unit with speaker, and although it is a Chevrolet OME part it was built by Colonial Radio from Buffalo NY, the rest of the Chevy radios where built by United Motor Service ,witch be came Delco
The Universal Chevrolet radio was oferened ,with yearly changes , from 1940-1948, what is really nice about this radio is they all have a date on them , there is a riveted serial number plate on the out side on the radio case ,the one your looking for start out 41- that radio is for a 1941 Chevrolet the word "CHEVROLET" does not appear on the out side of the radio in 1940 and 1941, there are lables in side saying it is a Chevrolet radio The 1941 radio is painted a dark red hammer finish. A simular radio was offered by Chrysler Corps. for their Dodge and Plymouth Trucks and is more rare than the Chevrolet radio ,Ford also used some Colonial Radio but I've never seen or heard of the Universal tipe being used by Ford, don't know what they used for a truck radio then, there was a option on the 9N Ford tractor for a radio don't know much about it would like find out , anyone out there know?
