Will 47 – 53 truck hub caps fit 1950 15” Chevy car rims or to put it another way are the early fifties truck and car hubcaps the same on the back side? A set for sale locally also has a bizarre trim ring that goes from the hubcap all the way to the rim on what was the spare. Thanks for any help.

Same sized wheels' hub caps should fit same sized wheels on Chevrolet (and, most likely GMC) trucks between 47-55. 16" six-bolt car and truck wheels should be the same. Car rims changed to 5-bolt pattern sometime between 47-55 - someone else will have to tell you if hub caps work
Also, my 15" 1954 1/2 ton rims use the same hub cap as I use on my 16" 1954 rims (I would guess that would be the case for all 15" and 16" 1/2 ton truck wheels and hub caps between 47-55).
The bizarre trim ring is a commonly available (non GM) stainless steel "beauty ring" available from many reproduction parts vendors.

I've found that all 6 lug wheel car or trucks those hub caps will interchange. There are companies today that can repop a look alike hub cap to fit ANY wheel. I have what looks to be stock 47 hub caps on 5 lug rally wheels.

That's exactly what I wanted to know. This whole set is less than half the price as the replacement clips mine need so I'm all over it.

Curt, That is indeed odd. I think I have one wide beauty ring but it is not as wide as that one. As beauty rings go, I like that one. Do you have a set of 4 or 5 - you should polish them up and keep them? Is it stainless steel or aluminum? Is it for a 16" or 15" wheel? I had a set of 15" wheels with 60's or early 70's hub caps and the factory repro hub caps would not fit for me... I also had a set of original 16" wheels and they fit the repro hub caps perfectly. check my pics link to see the difference.

I think we were referring to 16" and 15" wheels for 47-55 Advance-Design 1/2 ton cars & trucks (that Curt B originally asked about).
The 47-55 1/2 ton wheels have clips for attaching hubcaps.

| | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | I'm pretty sure that the truck 6 lug wheels (15s & 16s) with spring clips will accept just about every truck & car hub cap back to late 30s. The passenger cars stayed with 6 lug rims until 49 when the car only went to 5 lugs. I remember how surprised I was when I learned that my 47 coupe hub caps also fit on my 57 half ton pickup wheels.
The great thing about GM is that so many parts will bolt on for many years running. Like my 46 pickup with a 1961 motor bolted to the 46 bell housing, 57 pickup hubs/brakes bolt on my front axle, this list goes on and is probably listed someplace on the Stovebolt site. | | |
