I have a 1954 chevy with a 235. I am looking to do some performance upgrades and i was wondering what kind of cam would do the trick and help me with performance? any ideas would be great. thanks

Contact the guys at Delta Cam up in Tacoma, Wash. Ask them about the grind like the Bulldog cam they do for Tom Langdon. Just need to specify solid or hydrolic lifters. You UPS yours to them. About 10 day turn-a-round back to your door for under $80.

Another vendor that knows cams is Patricks. He is in the links section. Bought my M4F grind from him, which is a moderate cam. In the old days we called it a 3/4 race grind. It lets you have decent low-end torque and opens up the top end. I've had my otherwise stock 235 spinning 4,500 rpm with this cam. Exhaust and intake upgrades are very important.

The 235 that i want to put the cam in has split fenton headers, and an edelbrock 2x1 intake manifold. I am looking to get a 4bbl intake instead of the 2x1 though.

This is an ongoing debate among many of us who make these upgrades/modifications or whatever you wish to call them. Many of us seem to agree that most of our problems stem from using the Offenhauser manifold which doesn't fit up to the Fenton worth a toot. Perhaps your Edelbrock is another story. I'd get better carbs than any of the old 1 bbl units regardless of the intake brand however. Think Carter/Weber 2 bbl. Either one will over-carburate your engine but dual C/W or a single Holley 390 are approx. the same CFM but dual carbs have These old girls work best below 4-4500 RPM so getting too much fuel to them is a problem IMO. Be sure to upgrade the ignition too. Let us know how your Edelbrock works out and send some pictures. We require pictures or will have to start charging for our idiotic opinions.

Would you recommend getting a 4bbl intake with a holley 390 or keeping my dual intake and putting adapters on it to make it a dual 2bbl setup. if i did the 2 bbl setup, what carbs are the best to use? thanks

also i noticed clifford has a cam kit with a mechanical cam and all the parts for it. it is $350 which is alot more than having mine ground. which one is the better buy? and what is the difference for hydraulic and mechanical cams?
