I have been having some stumbling and misfires on my 55.1 recently, but hadn't had time to diagnose it. (Loose wire on coil). Yesterday morning the engine cut out for about 5-10 seconds. When it refired, the muffler exploded! Here's pix -- looking aft looking forward I bet it looked spectacular from from the back. It was sure loud in the cab. Oddly enough, the truck still is not horrifically loud. Battery explosion are a lot my dangerous to technicians, shrapnel, flames, acid and fumes. Not to mention the damage to the vehicle paint job and test equipment. I had a new battery blow on me in 1982 during a SUN ELECTRIC VAT 40 load test procedure. The customer's car was a mess afterwards.........I thought I was back in Nam!!

The backfires were comparable to a shotgun blast. So just now, I ran up to the garage to see if my indeed my muffler had also been damage. Alas, I found that the entire two foot section of my exhaust pipe - just past the muffler- has been blown completely off! | | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 554 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 554 | Reminds me of an ill-spent youth. We frequently did this on purpose "back in the day". All you have to do is switch off the ignition for 5-6 while in a deceleration mode, then turn it back on without hitting the throttle. Especially effective going downhill. You get a very loud explosion at the least and often blow the muffler out just like shown by Leon. I am almost surprised I used to be that dumb.
