I have a 1941 GMC truck, Series 300 with a 248 engine in it, 1.5 to 2 ton dump truck, 5 lug front and rear that has split rim wheels on it. The split rim ring stamp says 20 by 7. What size tires would you recommend for it as it will be a hobby truck not for commercial use?

It has a wood hydraulic ram set-up for the dump, what do you recommend as far as hydraulic fluid for the ram?

First off, we always like to see pictures. thumbs_up Secondly, welcome to the 'bolt!

The wheels should be Motor wheels with a lock ring, not the split rim type, but I could be wrong. On the trucks I have sitting around my yard, they have 7.5 x 20s with an overall height of about 36". That seems to be about standard.

Im going through the same thing right now on mine. I have a few of them apart and derusting in my electrolysis tank at the moment. Just so you know, those 5 lug rims are pretty hard to find.

Jeff

If the 41 is like my 38 the wheels are 10 hole and the studs for the front fit every other hole, then a plate goes over them. I went with new 7.00-20's but mostly I see the 7.50-20's on the older rigs.

Ive seen all kinds of oil used in hoist cylinders, anything clean will do the job. Personally I use the hydraulic oil from Tractor Suppy Co. You certainly dont need anything fancy.
