I wired the parking lights on my 3100. thank you everyone on your advice. Now I have these great fog lights from the early fifties that I want to instal.I purchased a toggle switch. Can someone explain the best way to wire these. each light has one wire. thanks for the help.

TPB,

A typical scenario would involve wiring both lights together, then running the single wire to a fused toggle switch wired to the post behind the 'neg' or - side of the ammeter.

Both fog lights will have to be bolted to a clean body or frame attachment for a good ground. Pulling your power from the generator side of the ammeter means that the lights will always be ON unless you turn the toggle switch OFF...turning the key OFF won't kill the lights.

Thank you. When do I get promoted from wrnch finder? The fog lights have a jaggerd piece they are attached to that must of fit into a piece that was bolted to the apron. I did place a rubber washer under the jaggered end to give it something to bite into. I hope that doesn't affect the grounding. They are bolted to the apron. I have a 12 volt conversion. You still recommend the above wiring?

TPB,
I wired up a set of those new mini halo fog lights on my 52 this winter just for safety sake, my low beams are pretty dim compared to my newer vehicles and my night vision aint what it used to be.
As for wiring I pulled a headlight out and confirmed wich wire was for the low beams and powered my fog lights off the low beam feed, that way when ya click on your BRIGHTS the fog lights go out like on new vehicles and when ya turn off your lights the fog lights also go out ..."NO FOREGETIN TO FLICK THE SWITCH".
you can also use the headlight feed for your low beams and bring a wire back to your switch ..this way you can select on and off for your fog lights at will but when you turn of the main light switch the fog lights are powered down and you wont ever forget to turn em off.
Just a tip
Tim

FWIW:
I don't like toggle switches, especially when the lights may be turned on when the ignition is off. Too often the fog lights are left on when they should not be. When I put fog lights on my c-10, I got a rocker switch from Radio Shack that would glow red when the switch was activated. Just look at the switch and you can tell if the lights are on or not.

Use your toggle if you wish, it's your truck but they leave a big hole in the dash.... I have for my fog lamps http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/1951otter/?action=view&current=0035595-R1-008-2A.jpg
a security/start/fog switch in my rig my fogs are NOT wired thru my headlight & can be used anytime,
http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/1951otter/?action=view&current=0465700-R1-015-6.jpg
as you see ... the stock H/L switch is far left, the wiper switch is upper and start/security/fog is the lower of the two w/ the light logo, a double acting switch. on my rig you have to pull the start switch b4 you turn the key on or the horn sounds loud..... dang i hate it when i forget to..........
wire them using a relay
i used a relay [ 5-6bucks ] i wire in the dask from the acc side of my fuse panel goes to a switch [your toggle] or some other as you choose,
so the
relay #30 pole to main battery power wired off some sort of terminal lug, 12gauge wire.
relay # 85 to ground 16ga.
relay # 86 to toggle or other dash mounted switch, 16ga
relay # 87 to fog lights, 12ga.
fog lights should have two wires w/in the light, take both ground wires from the fog lamps and attach them to a good solid ground.
as the toggle switch is activated it inturn operates the relay coil and goes to ground. that side of the relay is now working. when it activates the relay coil, that coil operates the switch w/in the relay, connecting the large gauge wire @ post #30 to connect to #87 to the lights.
thus you get all 12+++ volts to the fog lamps all the time.

I'm with carolines truck, use a relay. I wired mine through a relay as well. Mine are turned on with a toggle, but I added an aluminum panel under the dash just for mounting any toggles or cables so that I didn't have to cut up the dash. The toggles for the overdrive, fog lamps, and auxilliary fan all mount on the panel, along with the lockout cable for the overdrive. The fog lamp toggle is powered from the headlamp switch, so if the headlamps are off, there's no power to the fog lamps.

I have two more questions before I start the fog light project. How do I add a ground wire to my fog ligts. They are original and only have one wire. When I open up the fog light would I attach the ground to any screw? When I go on classic trucks I find all kinds of relays except the one you used.

it may not be that necessary to ''add'' a wire for gnd. as LONG as you have a really good scrapped surface where the fog lamp attaches @ the bolt hole.
WTBS w/ that being said
most want a good paint job and usually where the lamp attaches to the truck it's painted.
so
open the lamp usually by removing the lens ring.
push a green wire up thru the mounting hole. ground is green.
attach it to any part of the housing or lug
or
where you see the second wire from the bulb that is attached to that lug, wire there.
now you have a separate grounding wire. if you make it long enough to reach the second fog or at least bring them both together to a common bolt that IS a good scraped area ground. i like to use a serrarted washer.
the other two wires from the fog lamp then go to the ''switched'' side of the relay. if you can try & place the relay[s] close to the front of the engine compartment.

BTW
relays [bosch 30 amp] can be found at any automotive electrical supply or FLAPS.... about $5-6 bucks w/ the relay, solderless connectors and plug/holder.

got everything and I understand pretty much what do do. I thank you for all your help. Just a couple of unrelated questions I bought a replacement contact for my horn. The plactic tube with the spring. The relacements are pretty much junk compared to the old ones. Horn works but no the greatest. Just wondering am I expectecting to much from my horn. It makes contact in about half the positions when I depress it. There are some dead spots.
Also what are those blue dots and how are they used on your lights?

blue dots are for your tail lamps

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/40-5...S-WITH-BLUE-DOTS_W0QQitemZ290329579098QQ

try and operate your horn by using a wire to ground it and not use your horn button/
see if that makes a difference. next you may wish to operate a horn by using a relay.

the blue dots or the relays?

Jollys site shows the relay connections so maybe dots - blue dots are part of the lense, an inset blue piece, can be home made, but usually purchased for the specific light
