Seems a bit odd, the rpm runs 100-200 higher when sitting at a light with my foot on the brake.

Kinda slides into it, rather than acting as if directly connected.

Any ideas?

'67 Pickups are known to do that quite a lot! Have you checked the charcoal regeneration dump valve.

I think the Goodwrench guy put one of those charcoal dump valves in my wifes car one time. Cost about a grand! Ha!
