I am contemplating what to do with the cruddy fuel tank on my 48 3/4ton truck. I don't want to spend more than about $250. I was planning on getting it cleaned and sealed at a radiator shop, since it is in decent overall condition. However, I got to thinking....
Does anyone make a poly tank that will bolt into the stock location? (under the bed on the 48) I do need a new sending unit as well, and was wondering if it would be better to have the fuel pickup outlet at the top in the sending unit versus at the bottom of the tank. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I think the 47 and 48 gas tanks are hard to find. I have seen them go on e-bay for what I thought were high prices. The whole top of my 48 3/4 ton tank was rusted through with pin holes and the PO had smeared bondo over it as a patch. I cut the top away and used a doner tank to make a patch and repaired it. It took me a day to fix the tank and I wished I had spent more time cleaning out the tank, because I still get crud in the tank. I power washed it and apparently I did not get behind the baffles very well. If I replace it, I will just build a stainless tank for the same location. My 48 half ton parts truck still has the tank in it, but I dont know the condition. I dont know if the halfs and 3/4 tons are the same either. Enough rambling.
