I rebuilt the master and all wheel cylinders, replaced all shoes and turned the drums. Everything seemed to work fine for some time. Recently, the brakes seemed really tight. I only needed to push the pedal in less than 1 inch to engage them. It seemed that the rears were dragging. I adjusted them out again but after a little driving they were back in the same tight position. This is a 3/4 ton. Are these brakes self adjusting? How do I keep them from tightening up so much?

If it doesn't come back all the way it will build up pressure. Make sure the emer. brake cables are not adjusted too tight. If they pull the shoes off the anchor pin it will cause drag.

The master cylinder should be set up so that the pedal backstop is provided by the MC itself. | | |
