Hi ya'll,
I'm done with trying to keep this canister filter from leaking. Can anybody tell me where I can get the adapter to use a spin-on? Last time I had the canister off, I looked, but didn't see the mounting holes for an adapter like for the early V-8s.

Thanks Ken

I just took mine apart and found the regular gasket at the top, but when I started cleaning it I found another narrower gasket that I am not sure yet where it goes as I haven't put it back together yet (looking for proper color orange). Maybe you are missing one of the gaskets. These housings look pretty leakproof to me.

Ken, I think most good part stores will sell the adaptors for the spin-ons. In order to use them, however, you have to tap into the block. There's a particular spot on the old sixes that had a pin that can be removed, and you can tap into that passage to feed oil to the spin-on, but I don't recall exactly where it is. Maybe someone who recalls it could chime in here.

a lot of cannisters leaking is caused by a accumalation of old seal rings still in the o ring groove that have not been removed.
get a sharp pick and remove all the old o-rings and make the o-ring groove clean wet your new o-ring with oil and install in the groove 1st then install filter and cannister remember the thru bolt seal too grin

Ok Cool, Your right baldeagle, there are no good parts stores here, lol.
I'm not ready to tap into the block yet, and thanks bullfoot. I'm sure it can use a good cleanin. I am only aware of the one o-ring, (kinda square) that seals. Any time in past (v-8)cannisters. If you had two, thats why it was leaking, the top being left from the last filter. Does the v-6 have two?
Anyway, I'll clean the crud out, and see if that takes care of it. It should'nt have much with only 61,000 on it.........right,lol.

Thanks again, Ken

Usually orings aren't square, that could be your problem. They take the shape of the groove after a while and they should always be replaced if they no longer have a round crosssection.
