Howdy,
I happened across some Holly and Rochester 1bbl carbs from a 73, 74 and 75 Chevy Nova six cylinder.. I am currently running the call out 1962 single barrel Rochester carb on my 1962 235 Chevy C10 truck.. As most of you already know, the 1 barrels from 1962 are leaky and not very efficient comparatively to some later model carbs.. It looks to me that these 1bbl carbs from the early 70's Novas will bolt right up to my 62.. There are some additional vacuum hoses on the Nova carbs but it wouldn't be a problem from what I can see.. Just plug the extra vacuum outlets..
From what I heard, the early 70's single barrel carbs from these Novas are less leaky and more efficient then the call outs for the 60's.. Does anyway have any experience using these carbs on their early 60's 235's?? At first glance this seems like a good idea to try..

The 68 up 1 barrel Rochester carbs are called Monojets. They are a very eficint carb. Ive worked with a lot of them but never changed one over from a model B. The thing you would have to watch for would be the throttle linkage. I believe the mounting is the same as 55 up. Like you say, you can cap off the unused vacuum outlets. I think it would make a very good swap. The later models around the late 70's to mid 80's had electric chokes & were self contained.

True on the linkage.. I could always convert the linkage to a cable if it's a problem.. I have to look up Monojets.. These carbs that I were looking at were Holly carbs.. Unless you're saying that Monojets are a type of Holly or Rochester??

tclederman: Thanks for that little gem.. I have a couple more questions..? If any of you guys were going to to try to swap one of these carbs to my model, Which 1bbl with the manual choke would you go for? Also, the jet size in the call out re-manufactured 1bbl rochesters for my 62 is 56 thousands.. Does anyone know what the jet sizes are on these later single barrels?

Holley carbs were not standard equip. on the 6 cyls. There might be a replace ment but it would be pretty rare. They are completely diff. from a Roch. You can't compare the jet size between the model B & Monojet. The MJ uses a metering rod in the center of the jet so it is larger. A carb for a 250 CID should be about right for the 235. The metering rod heigth can be adjusted so you can taylor it to your engine. The late 60's -early 70's trucks had manual chokes. The little carbs are easy to o'haul if you find one at a salvage yard or swap meet.

Wrenchbender Ret.. Thanks I appreciate that.. I was just going to order one from rockauto.com.. I'm still confused on which ones to get because the part numbers are different from year to year but the pictures look the same.. I figure i should look at the chevy novas or the camaros.. Any suggestions on what years would be safe try's for my year? I was looking at between 73 and 76..

If you get one for a car its going to be an auto choke. The early ones had the choke coil in or on the manifold. They will not match up with your manifold. The later ones, late 70's early 80's had electric choke & was self contained. They were the best ones. They had a lug cast into the houseing that prevents the link from the throttle lever to the metering rod from falling out, which was common on the earlier models. Make sure the screws that hold the bracket for the air cleaner bolt are tight. They have been known to fall out & distruck the engine.
